Antique clock Restoration Services

Our clock restoration department was originally started in 1981 by John Yealland to provide a bespoke service for London dealers. This included major replacement work, as well as full overhauls of high quality clocks.

Since that time, The Clock Workshop in Reading has expanded to a highly experienced team, initially trained in the British Horological Institute and the West Dean College courses. We provide a restoration service to both dealers and the public.

We are fully insured and estimates are free. We will only repair or restore mechanisms which we can fully guarantee.

Traditional clock repairs

Overhaul work is done entirely in the traditional manner.

Preparation

The clock is dismantled by hand and each part carefully removed prior to restoration

Pivots

Pivots (or bearing surfaces) have wear removed from them and are then burnished

Traditional clock repairs

Worn bearings

Worn bearing holes are bushed and other wear and faults corrected as necessary

Cleaning

All parts are then cleaned, assembled, lubricated, fully tested and regulated

Quality Restorations

We are fully conversant with conservation techniques and each piece is examined and advised on, depending on its condition, age and your wishes. We are also aware of the necessity to restore a clock in a manner that will enhance and keep its value and have a wide knowledge of the art and antiques market.

Casework, dial restoration, glass replacement, gilding and a number of other ancillary services are also offered and we will always source only the best craftsmen and materials for these.

My sincere thanks to The Clock Workshop for its excellent service and for restoring my carriage clock, which has worked perfectly ever since. Having tried several other clock repairers, I had almost given up hope - my faith in craftmanship has been restored!
